Medical Social Worker
What is a medical social worker?
Medical social workers are offered the support and resources a patient needs to fully recover from a medical illness or injury, including the resulting emotional, physical, or psychological concerns.
Medical social workers focus on public health, elderly, palliative, inpatient medical, and mental health care. After assessing a patient’s support needs, they work with the patient’s family, support system, and other health service providers to organize an individualized discharge plan for in-home medical equipment, transportation, meals, counseling, and follow-up treatments.
Medical social workers also arrange any available resources to help make sure a patient recovers and achieves the best care they can get.
